Erupción del Volcán de Fuego en Guatemala
El domingo 3 de junio, el conocido como Volcán de Fuego de Guatemal,a entró en erupción acabando con la vida de al menos 65 personas. A pesar de la insistencia de los miembros de socorro por encontrar personas con vida, los esfuerzos parecían ser en vano ante la magnitud del desastre.
A esto se suma que se registró un nuevo deslizamiento en la ladera del volcán en horas de la mañana del 4 de junio, lo cual forzó la suspensión momentánea de las tareas de búsqueda y todos los que estaban en el epicentro del desastre debieron evacuar a un lugar seguro.
El alcalde de Escuintla, Abraham Rivera, manifestó que durante la erupción del domingo el material piroclástico del coloso se desbordó de la ladera por la que descendía normalmente, lo que dio un estrecho margen para evacuar.
La potencia de la erupción ocasionó una lluvia de ceniza que se dispersó por varias ciudades, provocando el cierre temporal del aeropuerto internacional de La Aurora y la suspensión de clases en los departamentos de Escuintla, Chimaltenango y Sacatepéquez que comparten la jurisdicción del volcán de Fuego, de 3.763 metros de altura.
Según los expertos la explosión fue la más violenta en 40 años. La Coordinadora Nacional para la Reducción de Desastres de Guatemala (Conred) informó de que 3.265 personas fueron evacuadas, 1,7 resultaron afectadas y hay 1.689 en albergues. Además, de acuerdo con CNN, al menos 15 personas han sido hospitalizadas, incluidos 12 niños, algunos de los cuales sufrieron quemaduras graves, según informó el Ministerio de Salud.
De acuerdo con la BBC, se han publicado imágenes de cadáveres atrapados en medio de lo que localmente llaman una “correntada”, lo que es una mezcla de lodo y lava, cubiertos por un manto gris de ceniza. El gobierno de Guatemala aprobó en la madrugada de este lunes el Estado de Calamidad Pública en los departamentos más afectados por la erupción del volcán de Fuego. También declaró el duelo nacional durante tres días en todo el territorio de Guatemala.
